“Reflections: Jackie ponders her past as she preps for her new future at LIFE University!”
This last week has flown on by. I watch the birds and I envy their ability to get up and fly away to the next spot when their current no longer suits them… but when it comes to my own move I get all wound up!
It’s conflicting leaving so much beauty behind, yet I feel so grateful to have it.
I have been taking time out of the day to write and reflect and to slow down. I stumbled upon this woman Marthe’s blog called “The Freedom Experiment” and loved her “55 gentle ways to take care of yourself when you’re busy busy busy.”
It reminded me of the things I already know to help me during a time of chaos, yet too often forget about.
My reflections on the past bring me peace as I consider my future
Some of my favorites Marthe shared that I’d like to share with you are…
-“Saying no to anything that is not important to you.” There’s been a lot of that this week and it’s really helped me focus on what’s important.
-“Asking for help.” Most people I know are more than willing to help! It also takes the edge off of moving to have someone there to be silly with and lighten the load.
-“Getting proper rest.” Very simple cause and effect. Get rest, feel good. Skip out on rest, feel crazy.
-“Listen to your favorite music.” Movement is so therapeutic. Get down, Jackie Brown.
-“Take 5 minutes in the morning to stretch and breathe and give thanks.” The days where I wake up and jump into what needs to be taken care of always snowball into a giant mess of a day. The way I start my day is reflective of how the day as a whole will turn out.
-“Take walks and get out in the sunshine.” Helps clear my mind and feels good to get that vitamin D!
-“Acknowledge your achievements.” I may not have gotten around to everything that needed to be done today but some is better than none. Check it!
-“Wear your pretty clothes.” Bright colors, funky jewelry, fancy braids, whatever works to make you feel beautiful!
-“Accept a little clutter and mess.” Really workin on this one. Boxes all over the place. It’s all good.
-“Take a bath, light candles, and/or use scented oils in the shower, get a pedicure, etc.” Take the time to pamper yourself when you need a little extra lovin. That little bit goes a long way.
-“Resists the urge to productive all the time.” I really needed to hear this one, Marthe.
So helpful!
We leave tomorrow. My next post will hopefully be submitted from Georgia! Peace out, NY.
